I know it's intended for HD or printer sharing, but there's got to be some way to do it. I have linux drivers for a zydas chipset dongle, couldn't I simply use them (or a variation) of the drivers to have the embedded linux kernel in a wrt recognize the USB dongle as an additional network interface? I guess it would depend on the router, if you have enough room for the driver.

Plus it would have to have some sort of software to manage the wifi card. There are numerous applications, the most common of which is for yachts. You would use the WRT600N as your b/g/n access point on the yacht, and have it connected to the USB WiFi dongle that is connected to an outside marine antenna that has a 6 mile range (most islands in the Bahamas and Caribbean have WiFi access). This would work for RV's (all campsite have WiFi), buses (like Googles) and even trains (via WiMax). And even for people who share their neighbor's WiFi but want their own private WiFi.

As this can be done with a 3G USB dongle, I cannot imagine why it is tough to accomplish. My idea was for full duplex repeater as well as being able to assign one of the 2.4GHz radios as ingress radio and the second 2.4GHZ as the egress radio for client connections.this is how cisco and the big boys to Wide Area WIFI over city's and such. Currently for full deplux repleater I use two 610n's and piggy back one to to the other AP-CB This idea is much better and I would support it as well. See the timeline for my idea back then. #907: USB support for additional wl radios I would like to put forward the feature request that routers such as the 610n and WL500 with USB enabled hardware to have the ability to connect supported 'client adapters which are USB based interfaces' and have DD-wrt see them for additi.

To make it simple, suggest that they support USB Dongles that are ONLY using the same chipset as the router, that way they have the base drivers. Sounds like a good suggestion to me. Can you provide me with some router(w/USB) and dongle combos that meet this requirement? Otherwise, you don't gain nearly as much. A powered USB hub would provide enough juice to power a device a lot further than antenna cable would. Just connect RF amplifier for longer range. Create Virtual Interface SSID for your computers and you are good to go!

I'm just trying to do it on my ASUS rt n16 (broadcom), to connect a usb wifi (rt73usb) dongle to it. Kernel recognizes the device but is missing module. Since I never did any dd-wrt developing it's kind of difficult to compile something for me.

I will still try to do it. It's extremely complicated as the dd-wrt kernel is very much deviated from the standard linux kernels. They have thousands of different patches. So, the modules are compiled but when trying to load them on the router there are many unresolved symbols. I'm moving to openwrt for this! Got now usb wifi plugged to my router.

I've followed loosely this guide: It should not be a big deal to compile other drivers for other usb devices. Goto page 1, Display posts from previous: Page 1 of 2 - All times are GMT Navigation.
