Belkin Firmware Update For Mac

Belkin Firmware Update For Mac Rating: 4,2/5 1709 reviews

Hi, I recently udapte my OS to 10.5.6, and yesterday I tried to update the firmware of my n52te, but a kernel panic occurs in the middle. I am convince that the issue come from MacOS 10.5.6 according to the fact that I also tried to a older firmware update (one that works few months ago, and I kept on my HDD) that lead to same kernel panic. I am currently dealing with belkin to have another n52te 😟 I tried with the old iMac I have (iMacDV 400 running MacOS 10.3.9) to renew the n52te firmware, but no way to get the firmware updater able to recognise the device 😟, same story using a PC. I post this mostly to share issue with other guys using such device with there Mac.

Belkin Firmware Update For Mac

Best regards. More info: I don't believe this is a 10.5.6 issue as I have read the same problem on the Belkin forum dating back to September this year.

Also mine appeared to work fine (for a short time) under 10.5.6 until I tried the firmware update. I believe the problem is with the firmware update.

Also I have a bootable clone of 10.5.5. On an ex HD, I installed the drivers into the clone hoping that I could run off that and not install the firmware update. But the n52te is still not showing up, which indicates to me that the firmware update has caused a problem within the n52te unit.

Please keep me updated if you have any other news. I was able to recover my N52te!!!! I used the recovery mode (hold keys 1 and 5 when plugging-in the N52te) with my old iMac running MacOS 10.3.9. This way the firware updater was able to identify the device and then to put the firmware on!!! I also tried with a PC with the recover mod, but on windows the firware updater is not able to identify the device. Finally no need to ask for a replacement to Belkin.

Just ask a friend having an old MacOS to help you. As in my first post, I am convinced that the issue is in MacOS 10.5.6 itself. Such a kernel panic should never occur, if a software is performing a wrong system call this should only crash the software and not the OS.

I tried this on OS 10.4.11 on 2 other macs but nothing happened, it still won't recognize the device. Unfortunatly don't know anyone with OS 10.3.9 to try it. Just to make sure I did it correctly. Installed the drivers on the G4, restarted. Downloaded the firmware update 3. Held down keys 1 and 5 together whilst plugging in the N52te 4. Checked but still says device not connected, so won't allow me to install firmware.

I have not been able to get anyone from Belkin to contact me, has tried with a phone call and a few emails, but I guess it is xmas. Thanks anyway for the info, much appreciated, and Merry Xmas. Intel Mac Pro with 10.5.6: Same problem updating the firmware - now left with a useless paperweight where I used to have an n52. I have contacted Belkin Support and I will be attempting to get a refund from them.

The software for the n52 had become (for me at least) more and more flakey. Before I tried to update the firmware I was unable to assign keys to the n52 once I had updated to 10.5.6. I'm not at all happy with this situation.

I have 3 Macs at home and I am not prepared to revert to a previous OS just to get this gamepad to work. Reading the n52 forums it would appear that some of our Windows friends also have issues with this hardware.

I note that Logitech have a similar device - the G13 Gameboard - which is about to be released. I think I might go down this route. I have exactly the same problem flashing the 1.04 firmware under 10.5.6: +Run 1.04 firmware updater+ +Flash progresses about half-way+ +Kernel Panic+ +Paperweighted n52te+ Following the suggestion of others in this thread I was able to revive my n52te using an old G4 with OSX Server 10.5.5 Thanks! Procedure: Use a Mac not running 10.5.6 (some in this thread used 10.4.x but 10.5.5 Server worked for me) Unplug the n52te.

Firmware

Start the n52te firmware update program. (the 'start n52te update' button will be grayed out) Be sure to hold down buttons 1 and 5 on the n52te as you plug it into the USB port on your non-10.5.6 Mac. The 'start n52te update' button on the updater program should now be active. Click 'start n52te update' button Let the firmware update finish.

Now you should be able to use the newly flashed n52te on your 10.5.6 Mac. Progress here! I actually got a phone call from Belkin. I had made a post on their n52te forums complaining about the situation with my gamepad. Obviously this had stirred them up. I spoke to a guy called Paul who was very helpful and seemed determined to try and get things fixed.

I had posted a copy of the crash log on the forums. Paul claimed that looking at this he finds that the problem 'is not with Belkin but with Apple and their 10.5.6 update'!! He says that Belkin will be working with Apple to get a fix but in the meantime the firmware update will be pulled from all European sites (and worldwide too?). Belkin are to supply me with a new unit. They will install the firmware themselves. I'm hoping that this will fix my problems with key strokes not being recognised - I'll have to wait and see although I have my doubts.
