This is a NAGGING problem: I have a Dell Dimension 2400 that has a virus on it and I need to reinstall the OS (Windows XP SP3) but the 2 drives it has: HL-DT-ST CD-ROM GCR-8483B & HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4481B.are recognized when you go to 'My Computer' and on the 'Device Manager' they both have a yellow exclamation mark by them. I tried to 'update the hardware' and got the following message: 'Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)' 'Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.' (.by the way 'Troubleshoot' is a waste of time) A search on the Dell Support site says that I need to disable one of the drives and 'flash' the BIOS on the other using a 3.24 floppy!!!that you create!!!!

Which, was difficult to do since '3.25 floppy's' are not easy to find.and the whole process of creating a floppy to 'flashing' a drive is NOT an easy process. But I did what it said and it did not work.sill have yellow exclamations and the drives cannot be seen on My Computer.and I still have a virus that I cannot get off the computer. I tried using an external USB CD/DVD drive and I tried one that I connect to the motherboard.but they too show up with a yellow exclamation when I look at them in Device Manager Does ANYONE have a clue as to what the hell is going on with these drives?
