Being a professor from a university, I have been requesting for an iMac for some time now and I thank the folks upstairs heard my plea. Since I’m covering theoretical physics as a subject, I needed to present elaborate and visually stimulating diagrams and presentations to get the attention of even my smartest students. Using Adobe AfterEffects and Illustrator in the iMac is a wonderful time for me to plan and create my lectures. This unit can handle what I want to do and even amazes me even now that it can do it smoothly without me banging the table because it hanged. Once I presented my lecture in class, everyone suddenly became more interested and now voluntarily asks for copies of my lectures. I have too many students to handle and with the Thunderbolt ports, each drive I receive can be placed with a copy of my lecture in just under 45 minutes (yes I counted).
I just hope they (the uni) don’t makes cuts again, I don’t want the iMac to go away. I’m currently working on a 3D miniseries and the iMac is truly a heaven’s blessing when I render about 2,000 frames every week. There’s too much reliability I put on this computer to make me say a bad thing (ok there’s one I need more USB ports my office mates are archaic and refuse to switch with Thunderbolt). The big screen allows me to fully get into the details of my work without zooming in and moving my head close to the point that I can see the pixel lines. The sheer high definition of the screen is tantalizing especially when it’s time to make my scenes move. I makes me want to do better, except the part of more frames to work with The speakers help motivated and allow me to play songs in full blast ESPECIALLY when we do GUILTY PLEASURE FRIDAYS and all of my colleagues sing to the tune of Queen with our heart out.
VIVA LA MERCURY! As a photo manipulator hobbyist, I am very intricate about creating details into my works as part of my style. I like to zoom into a very inconvenient view just to lay down pixels in a part of a photo or carefully square out parts that I need from multiple image materials. I also like mixing up the color treatment of some of my works so I commend this iMac in helping me execute what I want from screen to prints. When I try to edit from other computers, the prints are usually less vibrant or out of hue from what I made. With the iMac, that only happens if and only if my inks are starting to run out.
I also enjoy working with other Adobe apps since I can create the simplest effects into a breath of fresh air for some projects. I can see the full effect through the big and crystal clear screen. I recommend the iMac for creative people with an eye for detail and spectacle.
Here’s my two cents on this: WHY CAN’T APPLE MAKE A MACBOOK PRO WITH A RETINA DISPLAY AND AN UPGRADEABLE SYSTEM?!?! WHY Other than that, I’m OK with using my MacBook Pro. I would’ve love if it features a Retina Display for when I watch movies or edit graphics but I’m happy that I can upgrade it when I need to. The specs are superb, and sufficient for my needs as an architect. I can bring it comfortably to the sites I’m working on, and run my rendering applications with less if not minimal errors.
Thunderbolt lets me transfer files faster than I could imagine, as I could submit plans instantly with less time to for me waiting for the files to finish uploading. Sometimes I get so worked up enjoying the speed that I have moments where I have nothing more to do but browse cat videos on YouTube. LOLcatz says AWESOME!
I am learning the ropes of basic Adobe AfterEffects and I heard the iMac is the best computer for the job so I surveyed for it, canvassed and ordered it. So far, I’m able to execute everything I’m learning and more since I’m also experimenting. I also do photography for a hobby and try to minimize detail editing as much as possible and the iMac’s large screen allows me to reach the pixels I’m trying to focus on. It’s impressive how a picture can change with a nudge of a few pixels to the right. Listening to music also becomes a norm for me while working and since I spent a great deal on this iMac, I can’t afford to buy external speakers. Thankfully, its built in speakers allows me to work while listening to my beats.
I’m still getting used to the fact that this is just a single hardware with monitor, cpu, wireless function and speaker combined. I’m amazed, since I grew up using a Windows-based desktop. Welcoming this change might just get me to do more. I wanted the best desktop computer to work with and now I have it. This iMac makes my work more manageable I get better results sooner than I expected. It’s makes me question my trust in PC since I’ve been using that for about a decade already or since I started learning how to use a computer.
But we’re all about innovation and moving forward so scratch that idea. Way to go Apple for creating such wonderful piece of machinery to help human kind.
Here’s one downside for me though? WHY DO YOU HAVE TO REVERSE THE POLARITY OF THE MOUSE SCROLL AND ADD A FUNCTION BUTTON DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO TRANSITION BETWEEN A PC COMPUTER AND MY IMAC DO YOU APPLE DO YOU?!?!?!
Other than that I think it’s great.:). Apple’s iMac is definitely the best of the best desktop that is in the market since it was launched. I am an iSheep but my comments are not biased because it is always based on experience. I just got my iMac last week from an online retail store named MacMall, upon random browsing. Due to the great deal of discounts, free shipping and affordability and of course, the good reviews that I have read, MacMall, even though a site that is not very popular than the others, serves well and delivers good service. So I decided to try it myself.
Online shopping is my thing because I got no time to travel and for long drive just to get to a single store, and because I am not a mall person, I would just want my purchases to be done online. IMac’s specifications and features really made me decide to get one. Before I had the device I only had my laptop which serves as my comrade when I’m outside. But since lately I realized that overusing my laptop may lead to disruption, I think I need to get a desktop so that I could still work at home. As for MacMall’s service, the delivery is on time and the iMac is fresh from the box, oh yeah! Working with my iMac at home gives me rest days that are very productive. This device lets me do my thing in a much lesser time.
It’s hard to work when you have an awesome computer at the office and you have an outdated one at home. So I took the bullet, I spend a quarter of my emergency funds and bought an iMac. Now, I can do thrice the workload including sudden client inquiries, and system adjustments, without compromising the quality of my output. Three factors why the iMac is good: (1) the big screen = multitasking is easy, (2) specs = fast and easy work process, (3) wireless almost everything = less clutter for me to clean up. I’m a neat freak when working and I am not a fan of tangling wires and all that. 5/5 stars for the iMac! Keep it up, Apple!
I used to complain about the poor graphics performance of my desktop before so I had to find a new device to help me with my work. That is when I came across the iMac from Apple. I thought that it was just the usual desktop until I learned that it is already the complete package and everything else that I have been looking for. With it, I no longer have to have a separate CPU just to have it working. The iMac is already sufficient on its own plus it came with a wireless keyboard and magic mouse. It may be a hefty investment, but my company will benefit definitely by acquiring iMacs for everyone. I first experienced utilizing this device in one of my work way back years ago. Hello, I've recently started doing commissions where I draw out characters for customers and print it out. The drawing is made to be a little keychain, so when I draw it in Photoshop, I make it big and then size it down when I'm ready to print it. The edges and outlines look great on Photoshop but once I print it on paper, the fine lines are jagged and pixelated.: I'm sure it has something to do with the resolution, but I don't know what resolution will give me a better print quality. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advanced.:.
Click to expand.You can't go up in resolution, only down. If you change the resolution in images size it will give you more pixels but it won't actually change the resolution. You see Photoshop can't just create data that isn't there. When you attempt to resize these raster images (ie jpg, png, gif, and even psd), Photoshop either has to increase the size of each individual pixel - resulting in a jagged image - or it has to 'guess' at the best way to add pixels to the image to make it larger. Basically you will have more pixels but it won't actually look any better. For the ones you already did, you will have to redo the work to get a true and accurate better resolution. As bbeers said, you can't just create data that isn't there. Though Photoshop does a better job than he implies, it will not to a great job (it will look a little better, but not a huge amount better). You can try Photoshop's re-sampling options for different results, Bicubic Smoother is best for enlargement. Also,for some enlargement tips.
Vizfxman, not sure what you mean. To clarify, you have print size which is the physical dimension it's intended to print at, which your image should be at 300dpi. If you have the print size 3 times larger than you actually want to print and the res at 100, then reducing it without re-sampling will produce a res of 300. As it's 'dots per inch' the smaller you make the image without re-sampling, the more dots you are putting within the inch. Hope that helps a little. Of course she's not looking to upscale/enlarge the images.she is looking to print them smaller. I would almost suggest trying saving and printing a few at a lower resolution, allowing PS to smooth the image out for you, rather than relying on the printer.which is where I think you are getting the 'jaggies' from.
Have you tried to start your PS image/canvas at the correct size for the keychain? I.e., so you wouldn't have to shrink it at all to print? So, start with a new canvas at 1.5' x 1.5' for the keychain (at the recommended 300 dpi). If that's all you do with these drawings.the lower resolution IS the ideal resolution for what you are attempting and then the computer/printer will not ever have to resize and potentially screw up your image.
BUT if you ever see yourself doing anything else with these images, you will be missing out on the higer resolution.as others have stated above. Open the biggest version you have in photoshop - go to imageimage size - uncheck 'resample image' - change the resolution to 300 pixels/inch - this will alter the inches in the document size but wont change the pixel size.
This is how big your image will print. Adjust the resolution until you get it close to how big (in inches) you need it to be printed at. Anything over 150 should look alright. If you know exactly how big you need it then you can just type in the inches and it will set the resolution automatically. hit ok and the image will not change at all on screen but will print better. This will not degrade the quality of the image because the pixel size stays the same.
if the image is still too small then you can recheck resample image after applying the resolution change and then change the width/height to how big you need it, this will enlarge the image on screen and degrade quality and is only a last resort. Well, I actually found a site that explained that when you click on print, if you look at the print set-up window that pops up, there's a field where you can adjust the image size or manually move the handles around the image in the preview box instead. As you change the size, the resolution/DPI amount changes accordingly with the size. This worked out great and the tags printed out beautifully, in my opinion.

Not every print project moves through InDesign. Aside from that, can you shed some more light on something - The author keeps talking about using RGB because it allows you to use 'brighter' colors. However, when you convert to CMYK and output you aren't going to be able to maintain that brightness.
So, what's the point? I believe your assertion that it is 'best' is a bit strong. Perhaps instead we can agree that it's not as big a deal as it used to be?
